The big volunteer news this summer was that Cait Wisbeski had been hired to become the new Volunteer Coordinator at Hendricks Park. This position is funded in part by the Friends. Cait previously worked with the Portland Nursery and Portland Audubon Society. She has a background in horticulture and gardening, native plants, botanical gardens, and restoration work. She has experience as a volunteer coordinator working with weekly volunteers and a docent program, as well as organizing large scale events. Cait has a passion for public service and looks forward to nurturing the existing and future legacy of the park, the Friends, and volunteers. She has been on the job since early August and already has found her groove with weekly volunteers.
In the Rhododendron Garden, volunteers have taken on some new, difficult areas to clear, as well as weeding established beds. In the Native Plant Garden, volunteers have been busy beautifying the “gateway beds” that create a circle at the intersection of Birch, Floral Hill, and Summit, thinning sedge and clearing prunella in preparation for spring planting.
