Summer is coming to an end. After several severe heat waves and an extended drought, fall will soon arrive. Fall is a busy season for Friends activities in the park, with new Free the Forest and Walking Tour events now posted in calendars under Activities on the website. The first Walking Tour of the fall will be a birding experience, coming up very soon; an early walk through the park with Donna Albino and Mieko Aoki is always informative and enjoyable. Be sure to sign up for all events ahead of time.
This past summer saw Nearby Nature present its first bilingual summer camp in Hendricks Park, supported by the Friends. Young students improved their Spanish skills, while learning about nature and creating art in the park. Regular Tuesday and Thursday volunteer events continued throughout the summer in the both the Rhododendron and Native Plant Gardens. Weeding, mulching, and generally sprucing up the park kept things looking beautiful.
