This past month has been a busy time in the Rhododendron Garden. With spring arriving, there has been weeding galore throughout the garden. This included areas around Rock Creek where some volunteers pulled celandine, while others removed tired-out rushes. The beds around the main lawn and loop trail have seen mounds of weeds removed.
Over in the Native Plant Garden the Thursday afternoon group completed preparing a new bed and planting a variety of native plants. Weeding and mulching took up the rest of their time. In the picnic area, native woodland perennials were planted, while a group of UO fraternity brothers removed blackberry and cleaned picnic tables.
May Day Work Party
A link has been created to sign up for a Saturday parkwide clean-up day on May 1. Join us for the first-ever May Day Volunteer Celebration in the park. You can select one of three simultaneous activities to help spruce things up just before Mother’s Day. Pick your project and RSVP using this link. Each group will work independently to be Covid-safe but will still be part of a larger group effort.
